The Post Office is a beautifully restored historic 3 bedroom cottage for 9 people. Three spacious luxury bedrooms. Modern, fully equipped European kitchen and appliances. Two bathrooms, one with spa bath. TV, video, DVD, Austar & open firplace.

History

Pender Lea Post Office had almost become a forgotten memory, its chimneys crumbling, weatherboards missing & roof leaking. The only inhabitants that called it home were two wombats that lived under the verandah.
Then one day we found an old torn photograph showing the house in 1905. Our now sad dilapidated cottage had once been a bustling family homestead & post office. A dream was born to save it from its inevitable extinction.
For months we scoured rural Australia for materials. Centuries old timber beams, hand cut stones from stable floors, woolshed floors glowing with lanolin, convict made bricks, mountain ash hand-hewn slabs, silver-grey weather boards. This and more has been carefully woven together to breathe life back into Pender Lea Post Office.

Location

The Post Office is very convenient to the many and varied attractions offered in the Snowy Mountains, 5 minutes drive from the Skitube (takes you to Perisher ski fields, close to both Lake Jindabyne and Thredbo Village.

Activities Nearby in the Snowy Mountains

The Snowy Mountains provides some of the best sports and adventures in Australia.
In WINTER we are only minutes from the ski resorts of Thredbo by car, or Perisher Blue by the Skitube rack railway.
In SUMMER you can wander through the bushland property across to the Thredbo River, or take advantage of the fishing or water sports on the many crystal lakes close by. The cool high country of the Snowy Mountains and the Kosciuszko National Park with its awe inspiring scenery are here for you and your family to enjoy and explore.
This summer you can indulge yourself in one of the following:-
Bushwalking - Mt Kosciusko, Cascade Hut, Blue Lake. There are many great walks for one or more days duration.
Mountain Bike riding - The Cannonball Run down the slopes of Thredbo is an exhilarating ride.
Fly Fishing - Tranquil streams and large healthy trout are a must for the seasoned fisherperson or the beginner.
Horse riding - Just like the Man from Snowy River. Enjoy the magnificent scenery and breathtaking views of the Australian Alps.
Gaden Trout Hatchery - 15 mins away on the road to Perisher. The hatchery is responsible for replenishing tha lakes and rivers around Jindabyne.
Snowy River Winery - 40 mins away near Berridale. Located on the Snowy River
Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Scheme - Follow the tour and inspect some of the power stations.

Skitube - Easy access to Perisher and Mt Blue Cow

Pender Lea Chalets are sited on 1133 hectares of bushland fronting the Thredbo River, bordering the Kosciuszko National Park. The Thredbo River here flows deep in an isolated wilderness valley between Crackenback Peak and the Ramshead Range, in a beautiful and untouched series of pools and running rapids.
