Description
The house and its setting
If you have ever wanted to sleep in a luxurious tree-house with Pacific Ocean views, come to Yarrawa Hill. With its three self-contained suites, you can holiday with friends and family whilst maintaining your privacy, or you can enjoy the whole house to yourself. This extraordinary home is perched on steel poles in the rainforest and has a spectacular view across the tree-tops to the sea beyond. Located on the Illawarra escarpment, less than 2 hours from Sydney CBD and Canberra, Yarrawa Hill is totally private and peaceful, ideal for a relaxing holiday or a stress-free weekend. The house sits in 156 acres of forest and paddocks and the only neighbours are wombats, wallabies, echidnas, lyre birds and rosellas. The old Butter Track is on the property.
The house, designed by architect Mark Jones of Nowra, consists of two linked pavilions on a steep north-facing hillside. An absence of stairs and the convenient walk-in showers make two of Yarrawa Hill's three suites handicapped-accessible and parking is right by the front door at ground level. There are three decks, with remarkable bush and ocean views, a large paved sun-drenched patio and full gas and wood-burning barbecue facilities and a double car-port.
The West Pavilion consists of the Great Room which is 40 feet across and perfect for entertaining. Double-glazed, glass walls on 3 sides maximize the sea and bush views, while sliding doors open on to the decks. With its huge open fireplace (we supply the logs), as well as an excellent heating system, 3 large leather couches, dining table, TV and sound system, it's a wonderful place for both winter and summer relaxation. All the furniture in this ultra-modern home is Indonesian antique. The open-plan, state-of-the-art kitchen has stainless-steel work surfaces and breakfast bar, an electric oven and gas hobs, microwave, fridge-freezer and a walk-in pantry. There is central heating, a wood-burning stove and an open fire for warmth. All kitchen equipment and crockery is provided. An entrance hall, with cloakroom and WC, and a large laundry, with washing machine and separate drier, complete the West Wing.
The East Wing contains 2 separate living areas, each with a double bedroom, en-suite bathroom and study. There is also a conservatory sitting-room, with wet bar and microwave. The very large deck has teak loungers and two hammocks, ideal for sea views and lyre bird watching. The two wings are linked by a shelf-lined corridor, with an inside wood store.
The new Lower Floor suite was constructed in 2004 offering the third self-contained suite. Its open-plan layout contains sitting and dining aeas with under-floor heating and an open fire, wet bar, a queen bed and an ensuite bathroom with under-floor heating.
