Description
The Restaurant
Toshi's provides a special Japanese dining experience. Diners may choose to dine formally, in the formal dining area, or more casually, in the sushi bar. The formal dining area offers both conventional seating in one area or a more Japanese style seating in another, where guests follow Japanese tradition, leaving their shoes at the entrance and sitting on individual cushions on the polished floor. The tables are low, with a sunken area beneath them, allowing room for the guests to place their feet. There is a wonderful Japanese atmosphere created throughout the restaurant.The formal dining area can be booked for private functions for up to 45.
The Propietors
The restaurant is run by the delightful, Toshi Morihira, his wife, Nobuko and his friendly son, Tomo. Toshi, the head chef, looks ater the sushi bar, which is centrally located, allowing interaction with guests at the same time as preparation of the food is carried out. Nobuko is the creative force behind the menu, which is constantly revised and exciting new dishes added. Tomo looks after the formal dining area, the customers and the drinks.The Food
The food in the restaurant also follows Japanese tradition, comprised of small portions, entreé size or smaller, so guests can enjoy sharing several dishes.Dishes are prepared from the freshest ingredients. Tomo regularly visits the Sydney Fish Market to source supplies of the most exotic seafood, including New Caledonian paradise prawns, Japanese scallops, South Australian kingfish and Blue Swimmer crab. As is traditional for Japanese food, flavours are a priority and they are sensational!
Coeliacs and vegetarians are catered for and all food is totally natural. Of couse, there is no need to mention there is no MSG.
Don't miss the fabulous seaweed salads and the chef's specialities, including Tataki (cold, rare beef), of which he is very proud!
You may prefer to let the chef choose for you by selecting from one of the four set menus, ranging from $43 to $100.
In Japan, lunches are beautifully packaged in 'Bento' boxes with a complete meal all neatly packaged in the compartments of the bento. Tomo went to great lengths to continue this Japanese custom at Toshis, importing exquisite 'Bento' boxes to serve the delicious array of Japanese food during lunch. The 'Bento' box is fabulous value at $22 and includes rice and miso soup. Choose from Teriyaki Beef, Teriyaki Chicken, Sushi or Sashimi.
